Join Us as a Support Volunteer – Be the Heart of Our Community
1. Role Introduction:
Support Volunteers are at the core of what we do at Supportive Minds. They provide compassionate, peer-to-peer support in our designated channels, helping members feel heard, understood, and valued. If you have a passion for supporting others and a willingness to listen, this role could be a perfect fit for you.
2. Responsibilities:
- Engage in peer support discussions in our general and specific support channels.
- Offer empathetic and non-judgmental advice based on personal experiences, without providing professional or diagnostic guidance.
- Help maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere in the support channels.
- Use trigger warnings and content warnings as needed to ensure a safe space for all members.
- Participate in ongoing training and team meetings to stay informed and connected.
3. Expectations:
- Time Commitment:
Minimum of 3-5 hours per week, with flexibility to fit your schedule. - Communication:
Regularly check in with the Support Team and attend bi-weekly team meetings. - Training:
Complete initial training on community guidelines, active listening, and support best practices.
4. Training and Support:
All Support Volunteers receive comprehensive training on how to provide effective peer support, including modules on active listening, setting boundaries, and using trigger warnings appropriately. Ongoing training and check-ins are provided to ensure you feel confident and supported in your role. Our Staff Wellbeing Coordinator is always available to address any concerns you may have.
